At ADRIA, every piece of jewelry is designed to tell a story. And when that story is covered in gold over a silver base, it requires special care to preserve its shine over time. Here’s everything you need to know if you’ve chosen one of our gold-plated pieces.
What is gold-plated sterling silver jewelry?
It’s a piece made of 925 sterling silver (a noble, durable, and hypoallergenic metal), coated with a thin layer of 18K gold. This layer is applied through a process called electroplating, which gives it the warm, elegant tone of solid gold at a more accessible price.
''Gold-plated silver is a better option than steel because it is a fine, noble, and hypoallergenic metal and at the same time, a more affordable alternative to solid 18K gold."
What are the benefits?

Essential care tips to preserve the gold plating
The gold plating we apply at ADRIA is a micron-level coating of 24K gold, within the recommended range for fine jewelry made for occasional wear. It offers a luminous and elegant finish that lasts well with proper care.
Still, like any surface layer, it can wear down over time—especially without care. To keep your jewelry in optimal condition:
🚫 Don’t wear it while bathing, working out, or sleeping
🚫 Avoid direct contact with perfumes, lotions, sweat, or chlorine
✅ Store it in an individual pouch, away from humidity and other pieces
✅ Clean it gently with a dry microfiber cloth (no chemicals)
ADRIA Tip: If you wear your piece daily, some wear is expected—and that’s okay. If you ever take it to the beach, a pool, or spray perfume while wearing it… don’t stress. Just remember to bring it in for maintenance so we can keep it looking like new.
How often is maintenance recommended?
We recommend a replating service every 6 to 12 months, depending on usage. At ADRIA, we offer this service to make your jewelry look as good as new.
And if you’re within 3 months of purchase, this service is covered under our warranty.
ADRIA Warranty: Your jewelry is protected
All of our jewelry comes with a 3-month warranty against manufacturing defects.
If the gold plating wears off abnormally during that time (and the piece has been properly cared for), we will reapply it at no cost.
Just send us your purchase receipt to validate the date.
Looking for a no-maintenance option?
If you’re looking for a piece that doesn’t require replating, you have two options:
Sterling silver without gold plating
A noble, durable, and low-maintenance option. Over time, it may develop a natural patina a slightly darker or vintage look that many people appreciate for its authenticity. It’s easy to clean and will always retain its essence.
Solid 18K gold
The timeless classic. Ideal if you want a piece that maintains its shine for a lifetime, with no need for replating. It’s also an investment that increases in value over time and is perfect for long-term, everyday wear.
The essence of silver always shines through
Over time, if the gold layer wears off completely, the piece will naturally return to its silver color.
And if at some point you no longer wish to reapply gold plating, we can leave your piece in polished silver, honoring its original essence.
